We are academics who enjoy scholarship and debating theory. We also care about people and the planet. We want to make a difference where we live and work, and globally. Our philosophy is transdisciplinary, co-producing knowledge across disciplines and with local people, policy makers and partners where possible. We do research, we teach, we pursue positive impact. We take on leadership and representation roles and mentor junior, especially female, colleagues.

Most of our work is at the intersection of nature and society. We seek to recognise biocultural diversity and attain biocultural regeneration and transformation. We want a more sustainable future – but whose idea of sustainable, and how do we get there? There are many landscapes of possibilities to explore: natural, cultural and policy landscapes. These are inhabited by human and more-than-human beings. ‘People’ include those who are indigenous and immigrant, young and old, men and women (and others). And we acknowledge flora and fauna, the rivers and rocks and other sentient and non-sentient parts of the community.  We work together, mostly in Mexico, but also around the world on global projects and specifically in regions and nations including other parts of Latin America, Africa, Europe, and in Canada.

We win funding from international and national sources. We publish excellent academic papers, and, in line with our transdisciplinary approach, we produce reports, policy briefs, popular articles, exhibitions and more. We also go beyond outputs and outcomes to seek to make an impact through our work.
